Armstrong Moving & Storage Helps Girl Scouts Ship Cookies to Soldiers Overseas

In its 60th year in business, Armstrong is still moving strong in the community

ROUND ROCK, Texas – When the going gets tough, the tough get…cookies? Local Girl Scouts think so! When the Girl Scouts of Lone Star Council wanted to ship cookies to American troops overseas, Armstrong Moving & Storage, an agent of United Van Lines, came to the rescue, earning them the council’s Green Angel award for outstanding service.

All the folks at Armstrong really care about the community, and it makes a big difference for us,” said Faith Brown, product sales director for the Lone Star Council. “They have always been very supportive of our organization, and the employees have all done fabulous work.”

Armstrong has been involved with the Girl Scout cookie delivery for about 10 years. This year, they received, stored and transferred more than 1.6 million boxes of cookies. Of those, nearly 25,000 went to American military personnel in Iraq, along with 1,117 letters from the Girl Scouts in local troops as a part of their participation in Operation Interdependence.

Operation Interdependence is an organization that supplies, packs and ships “civilian rations” to troops overseas. These packages include everything from toiletries to magazines to treats, like Girl Scout cookies!

I get very heartwarming letters and e-mails back from soldiers who received our cookies last year, and they say that contact from back home really lifted their spirits and helped them get through the next few months,” Brown said.

Armstrong transferred the cookies from the Lone Star Girl Scout Council headquarters in central Texas to the Operation Interdependence warehouse for storage, and then they continued on to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio for shipment overseas.

Armstrong is very proud of its association with the Girl Scouts and the many good things they do,” said Charles Wolchansky of Armstrong Moving & Storage. “We were pleased to help them by delivering the cookies to Operation Interdependence for the troops in Iraq.”
